Chairman's Message 2017

John Adams (Chairman)Welcome to the 2017 season in which we celebrate ten years since the Club was formed.
Last summer was a challenging one for our 1st XI as they struggled in the Premier Division of the Warwickshire League but, following some brave performances towards the end of the season, managed to avoided relegation on the very last day.
The Saturday 2nd XI performed well and was in with a chance of promotion for most of the summer only dropping out of the race following the penultimate match of the season.
The Saturday 3rd XI’s main aim is to provide competitive cricket for youngsters who have come through the Club’s coaching regime and the 2016 season saw upwards of a dozen juniors break into senior cricket.  Whilst the team did suffer relegation the policy of including  so many youngsters is considered a success in itself.
The Sunday 1st XI which played throughout the season as Hampton-in-Arden Lions is now also largely dedicated to providing opportunities for youngsters.  Just staving off relegation there were a number of very pleasing performances from those getting their first real taste of senior Club Cricket.
We received a large number of compliments about the condition of the ground in 2016 as increased investment and professional management led to obvious improvement.  The square is now in excellent shape whilst the outfield continues to improve.  For 2017 the square has been extended to provide an extra strip for junior matches.
The Junior Cricket Section continued its impressive record with two more titles in 2016 and a number of individuals gaining representative honours.  The number of youngsters taking part in regular Tuesday evening coaching sessions exceeded 100 and we continue to be grateful to Dave Smith and his coaches from Complete Cricket for all of the work they do for us.
The Warwickshire League will be experimenting with a win/lose scoring system this year in the Premier Division.  Teams play each other twice during the year and the intention is that one game will be played to the ‘new’ system and the other in line with the long standing rules.  Under the new arrangement there will be no points for a draw though bonus points can still be gained.
There is a change of venue for 3rd XI games this year which will now be played at the Hockley Heath CC ground in Grove Lane, Lapworth.  We will be sharing the facility with Dorridge & Hockley Heath CC 3rd XI who play in the Cotswold Hills League and we are grateful to Dorridge CC for offering this facility at short notice.
There were a small number of social events last year, including a quiz night and bonfire, though, regretfully, the annual dinner did not happen.  Clearly an area we must improve on, plans are in hand to provide a significantly improved calendar of social events for 2017 and we shall be working closely with the new social secretaries appointed by the Tennis Section.
Thanks must go to those who have contributed to the Club and erected sponsorship boards around the ground and I would urge Members to consider employing the services of the companies who support us whenever you can.
I would also remind you of the ‘Easy Fundraising’ initiative which allows people who make purchases on-line from any of the more than 2,500 outlets registered with the scheme (including the likes of Amazon, PC World, House of Fraser, Thompson Holidays,  Argos, and Groupon etc.) to make a ‘painless’ contribution to Club funds whenever they buy something.  It simply requires the installation of a toolbar on your computer which will ensure a donation can be made to the Club by the on-line retailer (not the purchaser) every time a transaction is completed.  Sign up using the link below:
Finally, Richard Beesley, who has performed in the role of both Secretary and Treasurer over the last ten years, is standing down from the Management Board, though he will continue to serve on the Bar Committee. We are grateful to Richard for the major contribution he has made to the Club in its formative years.
Have a great summer!
John Adams Chairman
